Warning Oshkosh Telephone Scam

Oshkosh Police are warning residents of a telephone scam where the caller is asking to wire money out of state.

A spokesman for the Oshkosh Police Department said the caller may state that someone they know has been in a car crash and that money is needed to help them.

Additionally, the caller may state other reasons for the money to help someone they know.

Oshkosh police said they’ve received about a half dozen complaints recently from citizens about the phone scam and it appears the caller is targeting the elderly. Police said some people from Oshkosh have been wiring the caller money.

Authorities ask if you have caller ID on your phone you should write down the phone number and call your police department to report a fraud.
